To be nostalgic for the moment as it is happening is to live in an altered state of reality, but it doesn’t make anything less real. For me, this is usually a signal that things are going to end soon, but it doesn’t have to be. It can sometimes be a signal for new growth. But what if the nostalgia is not a symptom of growth, but of the end? Linnea Siggelkow known as Ellis grapples with these themes in “Pringle Creek,” the material following as she tries to figure out where her own relationship is headed.

Ellis goes on a journey throughout the song weighing the past, present, and future.  The song and accompanying video are steeped in nostalgia. She expresses feelings of apprehension and futility within the relationship “and I’m scared and I don’t know/ feels like buying flowers just to watch them die” as well as showing her hope for the future “I wanna be closer to you than I’ve ever been / so close I can’t tell where you end and I begin”.  She also shows us positivity in the present state of the relationship “you take me places that I have never been/ we sit in your car just laughing’”. Even though Ellis is scared that things will fall apart she still has hope for the future and that the relationship can grow. Ellis demonstrates that relationships can be complex and tricky as she states in the song: “things get messy sometimes”.

The video for “Pringle Creek,” directed by Justin Singer, presents us with sunny shadow-speckled landscapes, sunsets, car-rides with beautiful reflections on the back window, and golden-hour moments. It mixes at-home video-cam footage and crisp beautiful cinematic footage. This mix of footage really helps to reinforce feelings of nostalgia. Every frame of this video is absolutely gorgeous and moves in time with the rhythm of the song. The majority of the shots have camera movement which work with the ebb and flow of the instruments in the song. The video really helps bring even more beauty to the song.
