video: "Must Be Nice" - VARSITY

VARSITY has had a welcome habit of creating garage pop that beams as bright as the sunshine, with cheery melodies and a welcoming spirit, and such is the case on their newest single "Must Be Nice". The track comes from a new album out 4/27 on Babe City Records and received a more than fitting colorful and psychedelic video treatment. Against a visual backdrop of rapidly changing and warped animations, the Chicago outfit sings of the double standards expected in being nice, even when you don't want to be. Singer Stephanie Smith laments her inability to cry in front of others, rallying against the belief that we must be stoic in order to be taken seriously. While the instrumentals might be light and airy, the subject matter is anything but, with VARSITY using their bubbly pop as a means to serve up a seriously unforgetable message.
