song: "You and I" - Roger Harvey and Anika Pyle

words: Aaron Eisenreich

Over the past few months, Roger Harvey has slowly been rolling out new songs via limited 7” releases and a few videos. His latest, “You and I,” is a gorgeous little tune that calls on the vocal talents of Harvey’s partner and badass-in-her-own-right, Anika Pyle (Chumped/Katie Ellen/Sheena, Anika, and Augusta). The pair’s voices blend so beautifully, accompanied by Harvey’s precise acoustic picking and a lovely lap steel guitar, that it’s hard not to long for a full EP of songs (or more) from the two.

The song’s theme of the simple pleasure of spending time with the one you love is reflected in the video which finds the duo relaxing in a secluded farmhouse. They make tea and coffee, dump the last of the Heaven Hill down the drain, skip stones, gather firewood and watch the sunrise. Lyrics that allude to Elliott Smith songs and “getting stoned like it’s going out of style” fit perfectly with the peaceful setting of the video. It all gives off a comforting, calm feeling, like a hot drink and blanket to warm you up during the cold winter months.

You can check out the video below and order the 7” (which also features “Raining in LA”) from Harvey’s webstore.
